Who We Are

Lambton Area Builders Exchange, better known as the LABE was founded by a number of contractors who felt a need to obtain information in a wide spectrum of the industry in which they served.

The Lambton Area Builders Exchange is a non-profit business organization, which officially began operating on August 1st, 2000. This beginning was preceded by a two-month membership drive, which followed more than six months of pioneering work by a steering committee. Our current membership is over 100 contractors, subcontractors, manufacturers, suppliers and professional service companies.

LABE was formed to represent the interests of construction related companies working or supplying material in the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (ICI) Sectors of the Sarnia-Lambton economy. Our membership is still growing, and comprises of both full voting members and non-voting associate members, (i.e. professional and other non-construction related firms). LABE is an open association with no prior affiliations required to be a member. We welcome any union or non-union company that wants to increase its business and stature, while generally advancing the professionalism and profile of the construction industry in Sarnia-Lambton.

We presently offer a plan room service where we house drawings and specifications for all ICI projects, large and small, in the areas of Lambton, Kent, Essex, and some of Middlesex Counties. Under an arrangement with Huron Blueprinting, we have excellent reproduction rates for the specifications and drawings which Huron Blueprinting stores on computer for rapid customer order production.

To keep our members informed about what is happening, both in the Exchange and the wider industry, we issue a newsletter and plan list on a weekly basis. The Newsletter updates members on organizational, educational and social activities of LABE. Attached with the Newsletter is the Plan List which tracks jobs as they are upcoming, both short and long term, as they are current and out for tender, and finally, when they are awarded. We have also published a membership directory and buyers guide and update it annually.

Current emphasis and requirements for Safety Planning, Emergency Response capabilities and requests by various Ministries and Safety Associations can make it difficult for smaller companies to spend the time and money to properly resource and develop these plans. The LABE is able to work with its members, to develop and assist in implementing this documentation for individual companies. In addition, we are also able to schedule Basic Fall Protection Training, Confined Spaces Training and WHMIS for Construction Training through our office.

For further information please contact our office at (519) 332-LABE (5223). We are open regular office hours Monday through Friday.
